As of Friday, June 14, 2013 the five craft beer bills (SB 515-518 & 639) are now law, thanks to a timely signature from Governor Perry. With the overwhelming majority votes the bills received in both chambers, the laws are effective immediately.
This process has been two years in the making for Open The Taps, and much longer for our friends at Saint Arnold, Freetail Brewing and the rest of the Texas Craft Brewers Guild, whom we want to thank for their tremendous efforts.
Our biggest thank you goes out to our members and sponsors, without their support we couldn’t have fought in the trenches to make sure that the consumer voice was heard throughout the process. To all of our supporters who called their senators, representatives, the governor and supported our efforts on social media and at events, thanks for all you did!
We'd also like to send a big thank you to our strongest allies in Austin, Senators Eltife and Van de Putte, Representative Smith and all of the bill co-sponsors. Last, and certainly not least, we want to thank our lobbyists, Tim and Tony of Cornerstone Government Affairs, who worked hard every day of the session in Austin on the consumers behalf.
Looking forward to the next session in 2015, we will continue to fight for consumer rights in the craft beer world, with to-go sales for off-premise consumption from our local breweries being the top priority!
